Understanding Covid-19 Data, Phase 1: Learning About Phases
Kognitic has made it our mission to make Covid-19 clinical research publicly accessible. True accessibility not only requires data, but the knowledge necessary to interpret that data.
The view below breaks down new Covid-19 studies by phase, so what does that mean?
Phase 1: Tests the safety and tolerability of a drug in typically healthy individuals
Phase 2: Explores if the drug is effective in treating a certain condition/disease. Typically compares against a placebo or drug and continues to monitor safety
Phase 3: Tests for optimal dose of the drug, narrows to more specific patient group of condition/disease, and explores drug combinations. Success in this phase leads to marketing approval
Phase 4: Explores drugs which are already marketed to gather further data of safety, efficacy, and optimal drug use
